Given that film studio LAIKA was responsible for Coraline, we’re naturally excited to see what the company has to offer next. And from the looks of, the team is sticking with a blend of invention and scares, with the trailer for ParaNorman now online and available to watch below.
Featuring the voices of Kodi Smit-McPhee, Leslie Mann, John Goodman, Casey Affleck, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Jodelle Ferland, ParaNorman focuses on Norman Babcock, a slightly odd lad with an even stranger power: he can talk to the dead.
But instead of sorting out the problems of ghosts a la The Sixth Sense, Norman has to defeat a centuries-old curse that threatens his hometown. And he’s not helped by having to deal with ghouls, zombies, and the most challenging obstacle of all… Grown-ups.
This first teaser doesn’t really broach that story, but it does show off some of the intricate stop-motion animation and quirksome visuals. With Chris Butler writing the script and co-directing with Sam Fell, ParaNorman is out in 3D on September 14, 2012.
