If there was a truly divisive film at Cannes this year, it was Precious director Lee Daniels’ steamy, Florida-set thriller The Paperboy. Some called it pulpy and fun, others found it atrocious. Now we non-Cannes-goers get our first proper look at footage with the trailer, courtesy of Yahoo, which you can watch below.
The Paperboy finds John Cusack as Hilary Van Wetter, a man sitting on Death Row accused of killing a local sheriff. His fiancée, Charlotte Bless (Nicole Kidman), is convinced he’s innocent and engages newspaper reporter Ward Jensen (Matthew McConaughey) and younger paper staffer Jack Jensen (Zac Efron) to dig into the case.
But when Jack and Charlotte start up a steamy affair (including one of the movie’s apparently more outrageous where Kidman wees on Efron to help with a jellyfish sting), and Hillary secures his freedom, things become dangerous for all involved.
There’s no set release date in the UK for this one yet, but at least this will give you a taste of its OTT style.
