Ah, young, troubled love in the time of cholera. No, this is not another casting story for Love In The Time Of Cholera, simply word that the trailer for Ed Norton and Naomi Watts’ new period drama The Painted Veil is online for your delectation (we’re using long words like that because the film is set in the 1920s, when people talked all proper).
Based on W Somerset Maugham’s novel, it follows English couple; Walter (Norton) a middle-class doctor and Kitty (Watts) a flirty socialite. Their marriage has hit a rut and she’s been having affairs, so, partly to get revenge, Walter accepts a job in a remote Chinese village that’s being ravaged by an epidemic. Slowly her dedication to the cause and the patients grows and soon Kitty’s falling back in love with her husband. Let that be a lesson: never underestimate the incredibly restorative romantic powers of coughing sprogs.
