Although their CVs both show that they starred in The Bourne Ultimatum, Julia Stiles and Paddy Considine didn’t share any screentime in that movie, on account of… well, we won’t spoil it.
Now, though, the two actors are going to be in the same frame a-plenty, after they signed on to star in Cry Of The Owl, a thriller based on the Patricia Highsmith novel about a woman who falls in love with her stalker.
If you know Considine’s track record of playing weirdoes and misfits, you won’t be surprised to know that he’s playing the stalker, a man who moves to Stiles’ suburban town and begins spying on her.
The two embark on a twisted relationship that gets ever more complicated when women’s tennis champion Amelie Mauresmo – sorry, that should read Scott Speedman, who’s a dead ringer for Mauresmo; no, really – turns up as Stiles’ vengeful ex.
Stiles is stepping into a role that was originally filled by Sarah Polley, who dropped out because of a scheduling conflict.
The movie will be directed by Jamie Thraves, the British director who hasn’t surfaced on the big screen since The Low Down in 2000. He also directed the video for Radiohead’s Just, back in the days when they charged people a fixed price for albums.
BBC Films and Kirk D’Amico, for Myriad Pictures, will produce, just in case you wanted to know. Shooting will start at the end of the month in Toronto.
