He's been in the news a bit recently for abandoning his favourite marmalade sandwiches in favour of Marmite and cheese (eurgh) and now Paddington Bear is trying to hog more headlines.

Deepest, darkest Peru's most famous native is heading to the big screen under the care of Harry Potter producer David Heyman and Warner Bros.

Hamish McNicholl (Mr Bean's Holiday) is working on a script for the movie. Heyman said of the project, "Paddington Bear is a universally loved character, and I have wanted to bring him to screen for some years. Michael Bond's 'Paddington' books have such wit, wonder and charm. Essentially, Paddington's story is that of an immigrant arriving in London and trying to find a home and a family. Above all, I love Paddington's unique style of comedy."

The film will not take any specific one of the eleven Paddington books as inspiration and it is likely that the bear himself will be a CG creation in a live-action film.
