It's the post-fourth of July weekend holiday stretch in the . You can tell this from the tiny trickle of news from Hollywood on offer – most of the key decision makers have buggered off to Aspen/The Hamptons/Martha's Vineyard for a summer break, leaving us starved of big news.
One thing that has come to light though is the promise of yet another untitled comedy pitch. 20th Century Fox have purchased an idea from screenwriters Derek Guiley and David Schneiderman about a crash course for adults who have lost touch with what's cool. Oddly – or maybe not; this is L.A., after all – it's based in truth, and is attended mostly by executives. The story will follow four such advertising types (please be Steve Carell, please be Steve Carell, please be Steve Carell. And Will Ferrell, and Paul Rudd, and Fred Willard… and write in Gary Cole while you’re there) who decide to attend after an embarrassing misadventure in a high school.
Guiley and Schneiderman have only one completed film to their name – the 2004 Mandy Moore vehicle Chasing Liberty – but got their foot in the door at Fox with the as yet unmade action comedy Test Drive, and have recently worked on the forthcoming Robin Williams vehicle The Krazees for Nickelodeon.
