Cheering news for those who are still suffering withdrawal symptoms from the end of The Office, despite the fact that it's been more than 10 years now. Ricky Gervais is in development on a film based on his character, David Brent, currently titled Life On The Road.
The film will follow the office-manager-turned-salesman as he pursues his dreams of pop stardom. Since being made redundant from Wernham Hogg Brent has become a travelling salesman, hawking cleaning products up and down the country. But he's still hoping to make it big and, we're told, "He thinks it'll be like Scorsese filming the Rolling Stones, but it turns out to be a 'where are they now' documentary. He has to take a few weeks off work and cash in a couple of pensions, because the session musicians in the band are costing him more than he's getting in ticket sales."
The press release didn't specify any cast or crew for the project, due to shoot in 2015, but we can safely assume that Ricky Gervais will star. Were there any doubt, the picture above should lay it to rest. We're equally sure that he'll be involved in the writing process, but will he also direct? We'll have to wait and see.
So how do you feel about this? Does this seem like a welcome return to the big screen for Gervais' best comic creation, or a blast from the distant past?[[Poll1137]]
