OC Creator heads For Yuppie Re-Do

Josh Schwartz is a man who knows a thing or two about bright young things: he created hit show The OC when he was just 27, followed that up with Chuck and Gossip Girl, and generally seems to be younger, richer, more talented and better-looking than virtually everyone. Which makes him an ideal candidate to bring Bright Lights, Big City back to the big screen 20 years later.

The novel was written by Jay McInerney in 1984, and tells the story of a writer whose wife has left him and who spices up his disappointing day job by throwing himself into New York's party scene by night, using cocaine and generally being none-more-yuppie.

The book was previously adapted into a Michael J. Fox film in 1988, but we're assured that this is less a remake and more another film based on the same material. Schwartz, who's set to write and produce as well as make his feature directing debut on the film, hasn't yet decided whether to keep the 1980s setting or update the story to the present day. The question is, with shoulder pads on the way back in, will anyone be able to tell the difference?
