Nicholas Meyer, the writer and director of Star Trek II, has been brought onboard by Castle Rock to rewrite Playing Joe, a romantic thriller a la Hitchcock’s North By Northwest.
Meyer, who’s been a fairly prolific writer away from the world of Kirk and Spock (his new book, The View From The Bridge, details his career on Trek), will rework the original script by Jeff Miller.
The film, to be produced by Mike Lobell and Castle Rock’s Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer, will be set in Rio. Though plot details are under wraps, it will concern memory loss – and, we’re guessing, an innocent man wrongfully accused. After all, that** North By Northwest **comparison has to come from somewhere.
No director is yet on board.
In other Lobell news, the producer is pressing on with plans to remake the British 60s-set comedy, Gambit, with a screenplay by the Coen brothers, Joel and Ethan. He’s looking for a director for that one, too.
