If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be directed by Edgar Wright on the set of one of his films, this new featurette for The World’s End offers an answer. Short version: there’s a reason “director” and “dictator” share several letters…

All joking aside, this nice little look at Wright’s methods and on-set presence has the likes of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan, Rosamund Pike, Paddy Considine and producer Eric Fellner talking candidly about the director’s working habits, including the fact that, as Simon puts it, “he’s a perfectionist. And you can’t argue with a perfectionist.”

Still, everyone is quick to praise Wright’s skill and dedication to his craft, and to mention that he unconsciously strokes his beard and moustache when he’s deep in thought – which is a lot. Clearly, the man is just one cat short of becoming a Bond villain. And, if you zoom into certain interviews, we’re almost sure you can see the shadow of Edgar holding some sort of weapon just off camera, to make sure his colleagues say nice things…

The World’s End is out on July 19. Not long to wait now. America, you’ll have to be that teensy bit more patient as I doesn’t reach you until August 23. There’s a fantastic feature on the film in the current issue of **Empire, so go seek it out in shops or on the iPad.
