Old Wolvie has many things stacked against him in The Wolverine, including the Yakuza, the Silver Samurai, chopsticks protocol and probably the odd ninja, but keep an eye out too for the mysteriously forked-tongued toxi-lady Viper.
The ssshadowy ssserpent, played by Svetlana Khodchenkova, is the most unpredictable element in the delicate political web Logan (Hugh Jackman) finds himself in. As our forensic breakdown of the movie's trailer highlighted, she's got breath that does funny things to the complexion and a whole box of sinister tricks that will play havoc with Wolverine's plans to get in some Suntory time while he's in Japan.
That "Scientist, nihilist, capitalist, mutation, viper" thing sounds like she's deliberately one-upping any "Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist" who happen to be tuning in. There's also another, more Logan-orientated featurette to watch.
This story, set after the events of** X-Men: The Last Stand**, sees Wolverine "more isolated than you've ever seen" following the death (by Wolverine) of Jean Grey. An old friend, Yashida (Hal Yamanouchi) sends an envoy to find him, and offers Wolverine an end to his healing factor and endless life. But there are more dangers in Japan than his own existential angst, so things are never going to be easy for the metal-boned mutant.
The Wolverine also stars Will Yun Lee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Hiroyuki Sanada, with James Mangold directing. It'll be in a cinema near you from July 26.
