There’s always the hope, when watching trailers for a new, anticipated comedy, that the promos won’t give away all the best jokes before you sit down in the cinema. That’s a risk in these teaser-saturated days, but this new spot for Dumb And Dumber To has a couple of new footage fragments and some material we’ve seen before, so it’s not too spoilery.

Picking up the story two decades on, we’re re-introduced to Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd (Jim Carrey), who haven’t spoken in years, mostly because Lloyd has been pulling a very long prank pretending to be in a coma. But the meat and potatoes of the plot finds Harry learning he has a grown daughter and the pair setting off to track her down, mostly because he needs kidney and Lloyd develops a crush on her. Naturally, they soon find themselves in the middle of various idiotic, and potentially life-threatening situations.

And in this TV spot, that includes using a bus’s bike rack in a way that’s definitely not in the instructions. Still, it’s certainly a fitting gag for a **Dumb And Dumber **film and gives us more reason to hope that Peter and Bobby Farrelly (plus co-writers Mike Cerrone, Sean Anders, John Morris and Bennett Yellin) can capture some of the same fun of the original. We’ll find out for sure when the film arrives on December 19.
