We’ve seen at least two trailers for DreamWorks’ racing snail ‘toon Turbo already (one is sitting at the bottom of the page), but the new footage contained in this latest release via Yahoo certainly makes an impact.
It’s not the impressive racing footage, or any of the new gags surrounding our titular hero (voiced by Ryan Reynolds) or the other snails he meets (led by Samuel L Jackson’s Whiplash). Nope, it’s the weird choice to cast Ken Jeong as a crazy, cranky old woman.
That confusing idea aside, it’s more of the same here, as snail Turbo dreams of going quickly enough to enter the Indy 500 and, through a weird twist of fate (accidentally ingesting Nitrous Oxide pumped through a car) gets the very powers he needs, even if friends and family (such as his contentedly slow-moving brother Chet, played by Paul Giamatti) just don’t understand his obsession.
Turbo features a stellar voice cast that also includes Michael Pena, Luis Guzman, Richard Jenkins, Bill Hader, Michelle Rodriguez, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Lion and Maya Rudolph. It’ll be out on October 18.
