What if the world’s most enthusiastic Indy 500 racing fan was in fact a snail, widely regarded as among the slowest creatures on the planet? It’s that spark that fires up the plot of DreamWorks Animation’s toon Turbo, and the new trailer for the movie is now online.

We meet the titular gastropod (voiced by Ryan Reynolds) as he’s desperate to improve his personal best. But since that usually means shaving a few seconds off the time it takes him to crawl the length of your average school ruler (17 minutes), it’s not much of an accomplishment.

Not to mention some nifty new shell illumination.

He ends up joining a group of racing snails (which includes the likes of Samuel L Jackson, Bill Hader, Snoop Dogg and Maya Rudolph) and edges closer to his dream.

Given that we have to wait until October 18 for this one, it feels like it’s approaching at snail speed already. But having seen some footage from the pic at a recent DreamWorks presentation, it may be worth the wait. The company certainly appears confident – it has already begun developing a spin-off TV ‘toon with Netflix…
