In an attempt to stand out from the rom-com crowd, Love, Rosie arrives bearing two different trailers and condom packet posters labelled His and Hers. So… that’s something. Take a look at one of the trailers below, with the second lurking at the bottom of the page.

While we’re expected to make a cinematic leap of faith from the start – buying Sam Claflin as an awkward, stuttering, nervous virgin – it’s tough to tell from this early peek how much of Cecelia Ahern’s novel has made it to the screen. It does still focus on best friends Rosie (Lily Collins) and Alex (Claflin) as they negotiate the tricky waters of growing up.

The book’s plot sees them separated when Alex’s family move to Boston and teases readers with their choices between staying just friends and taking the relationship to the next level. From the looks of one of the trailers, we quickly get to Rosie and Alex giving sex a try, with humorous results. The other, meanwhile, finds Alex mortified when a seemingly discreet IM chat with Rosie is broadcast to the entire class.

Fans of the book will naturally be comparing the two, but director Christian Ditter and screenwriter Juliette Towhidi will be hoping their film stands on its own. With Tamsin Egerton, Art Parkinson, Christian Cooke and Jaime Winstone among the roster in front of the camera, Love, Rosie is out on October 17.
