Nine years on from the original, the long-in-development Wolf Creek 2 is almost upon us**. **Greg McLean's sequel to his infamous 2005 kill-fest finally went before the cameras last year, with John Jarratt at long last back as the cackling Outback serial killer Mick Taylor. We've seen some stills and a brief Australian TV report, but now here is the second proper trailer, once again emphasising that the series has undergone a surprising shift in tone.
The endurance-test first film was a gnarly, brutal downer, but those who have already caught Wolf Creek 2 confirm that this trailer is not disingenuously playing up a few scenes to make the film seem more marketable to a wider audience. This film is, we're reliably informed, actually *fun. *We're certainly in for more action than first time around, and the focus has shifted from the victims to the perp, bringing the appalling Mick out of the shadows and taking him the full-on slasher stand-up comedian route. This time there'll be more jokes to go with that famous Taylor giggle.
McLean is once again the writer and director, and Jarratt's hapless co-stars this time include Ryan Corr and Shannon Aslynn. Wolf Creek 2 gets a VOD release on April 17, with a limited US theatrical run starting on May 16. There's no release date in the UK so far, but our money's on a DVD premiere before too long.
