We’ve already had one trailer for The Judge, Robert Downey Jr.’s upcoming trip into dramatic territory, aiming to plough a more earnest furrow while also retaining the trademark charm we’ve come to expect. Check out the new promo below.
Directed by** Wedding Crashers**' David Dobkin, The Judge follows big shot lawyer Hank Palmer (Downey Jr.) who reluctantly returns to his childhood home in small town Indiana when his mother dies. There, he discovers that his estranged father (Robert Duvall), the town’s judge, is being investigated for murder.
So the man who walked away from his family years ago now finds himself having to reconnect with the man he’s tried to avoid. Frosty initial relations eventually give way to more of an understanding as better memories flow, but there’s also the small matter of keeping dad from going to jail.
Alongside the two heavy hitters in the lead, the cast includes Vera Farmiga, Billy Bob Thornton, Vincent D’Onofrio, Dax Shepard, Jeremy Strong, Melissa Leo, Leighton Meester, David Krumholtz and Sarah Lancaster. Reviews from the Toronto Film Festival were a little mixed, but we’ll get the chance to judge decide for ourselves when The Judge arrives in the UK on October 17.
