While some films gallop to the screen like thoroughbreads, others seems to mosey there, stopping to sniff a shrubbery and maybe munch an apple along the way. Very much the Granny Smith-bothering bracket is Sergei Bodrov’s Seventh Son, a fantasy adventure with a gilded cast that’s taken the languid route to our screens. The new trailer, though, shows that it’s coming soon and has magic in store. Click below to sample said magic.
To tackle his array of winged beasties and Earth-trembling monsters, Bodrov has assembled a terrific ensemble of sword swingers. Ben Barnes is our hero, with Jeff Bridges lending salty support as John Gregory, a mystical warrior who represents the last of his order. Barnes’s seventh-son-of-a-seventh-son is Tom – Luke Skywalker to Jeff Bridges’ Ben Kenobi – who is learning the ropes of witch-hunting and coming to terms with his supernatural abilities. Their first major adversary is Julianne Moore’s Mother Malkin, although it's not the first time Gregory has encountered her: he buried her in a pit covered with magic-countering iron bars years before. Vikander's role is Malkin's daughter Alice, who may or may not be a chip off the old block.
Seventh Son is an adaptation of The Spook's Apprentice, the first of Joseph Delaney's best-selling kids series The Wardstone Chronicles, and will gets its day in the sun on March 27, 2015. For more spicy Seventh Son visuals, head here.
