It’s been a few months since the last trailer for Tommy Lee Jones' second stint as director, The Homesman, arrived online. While this new promo suffers from some footage repetition, there’s enough new material to get more of a sense of the film.
The Homesman finds Swank as Mary Bee Cuddy, a staunchly independent pioneer woman who has taken on the job of shepherding three mentally unstable women from Nebraska to Iowa. Between them and their destination lie miles of rough terrain, natural barriers and swarms of threats from unfriendly wagon trains to bandits to Native American tribes that prey on unwary travellers.
To help in her mission, Cuddy enlists the help of George Briggs (Jones), a claim jumper she meets when he’s been sentenced to hang. Convincing him to journey with her, the pair sets out on their perilous task.
Jones has rounded up a hugely impressive cast with Meryl Streep, Hailee Steinfeld, Jesse Plemons, Tim Blake Nelson, William Fichtner, John Lithgow, Miranda Otto and James Spader all aboard.
The Homesman hit Cannes earlier this year, and while our Damon Wise wasn’t 100% sold on the film he did find a lot to like. UK audiences will have their chance to see it for themselves on December 5.
