If you thought the first trailer for Ben Wheatley’s latest, A Field In England (lurking at the bottom of the page) was a bit trippy, here comes the new one to laugh mockingly at your notions of trippy and get extra weird just for good measure. You have been warned.
Wheatley’s Civil War enigma is shaping up to be one of the most memorable cinematic experiences of the year, and given the man’s past form, hopefully one of the best. The story finds Richard Glover, Peter Ferdinando and Reece Shearsmith as survivors of a Civil War battle captured by Michael Smiley's alchemist and his sidekick Ryan Pope, and put to work helping him dig up a mysterious treasure trove.
When they discover another hoard – of magic mushrooms – things start to get seriously weird.
This new promo, which puts us in mind of Hammer promos from the 1960s and 70s mixed with whatever the characters have been snacking on, ratchets up the weirdness to a huge degree, but dampens our enthusiasm and anticipation for the film not one jot.
A Field In England will be released simultaneously over here in cinemas on free TV, on DVD and VoD on July 5, so not long to wait now…
