With the new film of The Equalizer due in cinemas later this year, Sony is ramping things up on the promotional front again, releasing another new trailer for Denzel Washington’s latest.
He’s inherited the role of Robert McCall made famous on TV by Edward Woodward, a former intelligence agency operative with a lot of red in his ledger who decides to spend the his retirement peacefully. But of course, it’s not that easy for a man like him. Working quietly at a Home Depot, McCall can’t help but find himself drawn into the life of a crusading vigilante, helping the helpless by, for example, tracking down a robber who threatens one of his co-workers and steals her ring.
But when he helps out a young prostitute (Chloe Moretz), he steps into a much more complicated world, and his actions draw the ire of the Russian mafia, in particular a brutal fixer played by Marton Csokas. Is he ready for the ramifications? On the evidence of this, it’s more apt to ask if the mafia is ready for him...
Antoine Fuqua, who drew the Oscar-winning best from Washington in Training Day, is behind the camera for this one. The Equalizer will hit our screens on October 10, and if it performs the way Sony hopes, a sequel will follow.
