With one trailer already out there and the show racing to US screens ready for its October premiere, there is a new teaser for Supergirl, which stars Whiplash’s Melissa Benoist.

The show’s story follows Kara Zor-El, born on Krypton as Kal-El’s cousin and, like him, saved from its destruction. After arriving on Earth, she was taken in by the Danvers family, who taught her to be careful with her powers. Now, though, she’s decided to put them to good use...

Calista Flockhart is aboard as Cat Grant, Kara’s media mogul boss, with Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw and Chyler Leigh as Alexandra Danvers, Kara’s confident foster sister. In the pilot, we also get a glimpse of Superman himself, here played by Kevin Caliber, presumably because CBS can’t afford to pay Warner Bros. all the money for the rights to use Henry Cavill’s take on the character and they need someone who can occasionally pop in. Even if Superman here is very much planned as a background reference more than a character.

But if you were hoping for more solid crossovers with existing DC TV properties such as Arrow and The Flash (despite the other two airing on another channel, they all come from producer Greg Berlanti, who is fond of crossovers), don’t start Tom Cruise-level training to hold your breath just yet. “We have not had conversations about the crossovers, but we are doing crossover promotions, so we will see that with the promotion crossovers, but not in terms of the characters,” CBS chairman Nina Tassler told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour. There’s nothing to stop them having them, though.

With Laura Benanti, Jeremy Jordan, Dean Cain, Jenna Dewan Tatum and Helen Slater all set to appear, Supergirl arrives in the States on October 26, and will hopefully hop over here shortly after that, assuming it becomes a hit.
