New Spy Trailer Kicks In

It’s not every trailer that starts with a sort of teaser for itself, featuring some of the more action-orientated highlights from both this new promo and the film it's pimping. Still, the latest look at Spy, the latest Melissa McCarthy/Paul Feig collaboration, does feature enough fresh material to assuage most worries.

Spy finds McCarthy as Susan Cooper, a CIA analyst whose excited dreams of being a field agent have long since died down to the mundane task of guiding more adept field operatives such as Jude Law’s super-smooth spy guy. But when he falls off the grid and their entire organisation is jeopardised by a wrongdoer (Rose Byrne), her handlers’ only choice is to send Susan in. But it won’t be easy. And thanks to the horrible cover identity they’ve saddled her with, it won’t be pretty, either.

Still, Susan is more cut out for this spying lark than anyone realised, especially Jason Statham’s OTT colleague, a man used to bragging about the amazing feats he’s pulled off in the service of the nation.

Feig’s latest has been winning plaudits, particularly after a screening at the SXSW Film Festival, so we have high hopes for this one. Spy is out in the UK on June 5.
