In a break from informing us about the imminent release of The Hangover Part III, Warner Bros. also wants to remind us that Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby will finally arrive this spring. To do that, here are three new glitzy posters.
Working from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s acclaimed novel, Luhrmann and co-writer Craig Pearce have brought to life the tale of would-be writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loose morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Carey Mulligan), and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton).
Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As he bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles. And also some really fabulous clothing and interior design, if what we've seen so far is any guide.
Luhrmann’s vision for the film keeps the glam quotient high and boasts a soundtrack that includes contributions from Jay-Z, Beyoncé, The xx, Goyte, Sia, Florence And The Machine and Lana Del Rey. The film will open the Cannes Film Festival on May 15 before arriving in UK cinemas one day after that. Check out the latest trailer below.
