An initial trailer for the new Will Ferrell/Kevin Hart comedy Get Hard arrived shortly before Christmas. Here comes the newer, ruder, red band version, featuring more swearing and a little more violence.
Get Hard finds Ferrell in full-on bumbler mode as James King, a millionaire hedge fund manager living a seemingly perfect life – big house, flashy gadgets and a beautiful wife (Alison Brie). But then he’s nailed by the Feds for fraud and sentenced to ten years in San Quentin maximum-security prison. Offered 30 days to get his affairs in order, King turns to Darnell Lewis (Hart) to prepare him for the thug life behind bars.
There’s just one small problem: Darnell is a hard-working small businessman who hasn’t ever been in trouble with the law and knows as much about surviving in prison as King. Well, maybe a tiny bit more… But sensing an opportunity, he takes on the job.
Yes, there are definite overtones of Rob Schneider’s** Big Stan **here, which doesn’t give anyone the warm fuzzies. But with Ferrell and Hart’s likeable comic personalities and Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen on co-scripting and directing duties, there is some hope to be found. **Get Hard **arrives in the UK on March 27.
