Following on from the cast-free announcement trailer and then the first images, here is a “proper” first look at the Netflix-based follow-up to cult comedy Wet Hot American Summer, First Day Of Camp. Cheekily – and carefully – styled to look like a VHS recruitment video for the camp, it shows off the spirit of what we can expect.
While the movie took place on the last day of camp in the summer of 1981, the show, as you might be able to guess, takes place on the first. And despite the idea of the ensemble largely playing teenagers being part of the joke, the scary thing is that most of those who showed up in the movie still look like they haven’t aged all much in 14 years.
Talking of, pretty much the entire original cast – which included Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Bradley Cooper, Christopher Meloni, H. Jon Benjamin (who is the voice you hear in the new video) and Molly Shannon – is back for this one, with a host of new additions that include Chris Pine, Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, Jason Schwartzman, Michaela Watkins, John Slattery, Josh Charles, Randall Park, Jayma Mays, Lake Bell, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel and Richard Schiff.
We’re looking forward to seeing what madness co-creator/director David Wain and the rest have cooked up this time, but we’ll all have to wait until it hits Netflix on July 31.
