Axelle Carolyn's debut feature Soulmate promises some classic chills, so it's fitting that this new one-sheet has employed a classic poster artist. Graham Humphreys, justly lauded for his Nightmare On Elm Street, Evil Dead and FrightFest work, has composed this beautiful old-school image for the film.
The film stars Anna Walton (Hellboy II's Princess Nuala) as concert musician Audrey, who suffers a trauma and heads to a secluded spot in the Welsh mountains to heal and hide. Once there, she meets a previous resident of her rented house, Douglas (Tom Wisdom), who died some years ago but is somehow still around.
"I wanted to explore the inherent melancholy of being stuck between two worlds," Carolyn told Empire on set. "Soulmate starts off as a very classical The Others sort of thing, but then goes much more into being a sort of psychological drama. I don't think it quite earns the title of horror..." {Soulmate Gallery}
It is, however, obviously enough, a ghost story. "All the best recent films in that genre have been Spanish," believes Carolyn. "I wanted to bring the ghost story back to Britain!"
Soulmate is currently enjoying a successful life on the festival circuit, and is out on DVD in the UK on August 11. You can check out the trailer below.
