Like a much-more believable Father Christmas, Mike Leigh tends to deliver treats regularly for fans of realism in cinema - and this year's effort, Another Year, looks set to follow in his tradition. After premiering at Cannes earlier in the year, there's already been awards buzz for actress Lesley Manville, who stars with Jim Broadbent and Ruth Sheen.
Sheen and Broadbent play Gerri and Tom, a happily married couple who provide support and friendship for those around them - including Gerri's slightly insecure colleague Mary (Manville). When her involvement in the family becomes a little more, well, involved than Gerri and Tom would like, the relationship becomes rather strained.
Our Damo posted his reaction to the Cannes screening at the link above, so you can trip along there to learn more. Otherwise, this will be out on November 5.
