Hanks! Roberts! What more do you need?

Go ahead and try not to like Tom Hanks. He's smart, he's funny and he's so likeable that several underground organisations have tried to illegally clone him and bottle what he has*. When you give up on your attempt, we'll be right here with a first look at the trailer for his second directorial effort, Larry Crowne, starring the man himself opposite (among others) Julia Roberts.

The story begins when the eponymous Crowne is "downsized" from the company where he's worked for years. He goes back to college to try something new, and finds amixed bunch of oddballs there to bond with. He also falls for his public speaking teacher (Roberts, of course) who has lost her passion for teaching and apparently also her passion for her husband.

We spy romance! But requited? Unrequited? Will Hanks deliver another solid directorial effort or will he, after That Thing You Do!, prove to be a one-hit One-der? (Sorry) And will Pam Grier, Rob Riggle, Taraji P. Henson, Nia Vardalos, Wilmer Valderama or George Takai get much screentime? Only time will tell.

Larry Crowne is out in the UK on July 1. For any other news in the meantime, we recommend following the man himself on twitter, at @Hanx.

*Probably.
