Not to be confused with Mossad, home of Israel's external espionage, or Bet365, home of Ray Winstone's floating head, Shin Bet is the organisation charged with protecting Israel's borders from the inside. Their motto - "The unseen shield" - is perhaps another one of the reasons why they're not as well-known as Mossad - at least, they weren't until Oscar-nominated documentary The Gatekeeper****s came along and shone a big fat spotlight on their work.
Director Dror Moreh, whose film has a new poster (below), looks through the lens at the country's internal strife. Six former heads of the agency are interviewed, several condemning prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies along the way, and the agency's history charted in the context of the Six Day War, Palestine and current conflicts.
It may sound weighty - and it is - but it's a fascinating doc that hasfive stars worth of **Empire **endorsement. Think Errol Morris' Munich. Only with Shin Bat, not Mossad obviously.
**The Gatekeepers **comes out in the UK on April 12, via Metrodome.
