With Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling sharing the screen, The Place Beyond The Pines is basically a Sexiest-Man-Alive off. Any poster promoting the film will therefore automatically have the pair of them shirts off, rescuing kittens, right? Gosling plays Luke, a motorbike stuntman who divides his time between derring-dos at the fair, helping knock-off banks as a getaway rider, and trying to be a good dad to his son. Throw in Bradley Cooper's ambitious cop, struggling with corruption in the ranks, and you've got a kind of Heat-meets-Evel Knievel scenario that promises twists and turns at every corner.
