We’ve met Jake Gyllenhaal’s focused-to-the-point-of-creepy wannabe crime reporter once already in the first trailer for **Nightcrawler. Here comes a new promo, one that just adds to the scuzzy LA crime beat feel.
With Real Steel and The Bourne Legacy writer Dan Gilroy turning director for this one, Gyllenhaal is Lou Bloom, a young man in desperate need of employment. After several rejections, he stumbles upon the fast-paced world of Los Angeles freelance crime journalism.
Setting himself up as an independent contractor, he’s soon cranking up the police scanner and speeding around the seedy streets to beat the cops and other reporters to crime scenes. After a few lucky breaks, he catches the eye of TV newsgathering veteran Nina (Rene Russo), who spots a potential new source of content. But soon Lou is blurring the line between reporting the story and becoming it…
With Bill Paxton, Riz Ahmed, Ann Cusack, Kevin Rahm and Michael Hyatt among the cast, Nightcrawler prowls the Toronto Film Festival next month before heading to the UK on October 17 and the States just in time for Halloween on October 31.
