New Look At Andy Serkis In His Ape Suit

First, apologies: we know that expression is "monkey suit", but we didn't want to be accused of inaccuracy in our headlines. Second, here is a look at Andy Serkis in his role as Caesar in Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, looking as stylish as it is possible to do while wearing grey pyjamas and holding stilts with a camera on his head. Or as Serkis probably thinks of it these days, just hanging about in his everyday wardrobe.

This sequel to Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes sees Caesar and his fellow genetically-enhanced apes forging a society in the forests, while humanity struggles to survive following the release of a virus that has wiped out most of the population. Sounds like the tides are turning in favour of the hairier primates, but both groups are terrified and face a choice between forging a peace or working to drive the rival species to extinction.

The cast this time includes Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Judy Greer and Kodi Smit-McPhee, with Matt Reeves stepping in to the director's chair. Dawn Of The Planet Of the Apes hits UK cinemas on July 17, 2014.

You can read much more about apes and their daybreak in the new issue of Empire, on shelves both digital and physical on December 31.
