French illustrative artist Émile Bayard drew the famous sketch of young Cosette for the original edition of Les Misérables in 1862 - since then, his drawing of the illegitimate daughter of Fantine has become the emblem for all things Les Mis... and now it's come to life for Tom Hooper's movie adaptation of the beloved stage musical.
The new poster shows Newt-from-Aliens-a-like Isabelle Allen as the young Cosette – who will grow into Amanda Seyfried's older Cosette – staring forlornly at the camera, the broom in her hand presumably out of shot. Alongside it there's a similar-looking poster for the London stage show as well as the original sketch for any compare and contrast fun you might enjoy.
From the looks of things, this one-sheet is going to be the first in a series of Les Mis character posters, following on from the singing featurette seen late last week.
brightcove.createExperiences();Les Miserables’ star-filled cast includes Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Banks and Aaron Tveit – as well as little Isabelle here. The movie itself will hit British cinemas on January 11, with US multiplexes getting their musical hit on Christmas Day.
