Even though the popularity of JRR Tolkien’s work took another leap ahead with Peter Jackson’s adaptation of The Lord Of The Rings, it’s fair to say his scribblings were somewhat worshipped before a single frame of film was shot.

So word that an unfinished work set in Middle-Earth will be surfacing in near-complete form thanks to Tolkien’s son Christopher will undoubtedly be the cause of some excitement.

Tolkien started The Children Of Hurin back in 1918, telling a tale that revolves around the dwarfs and elves as seen in LOTR. But the professor never finished the story and until now it has only ever cropped up in pieces, excepted in other books. After 30 years of piecing together the fragments, Tolkien Jr is ready to publish a completed work as a stand-alone volume.

"It has seemed to me for a long time that there was a good case for presenting my father's long version of the legend of the Children Of Hurin as an independent work, between its own covers," Christopher Tolkien told The Associated Press. We can think of two good causes – new material for fans and a hefty payday for the publishers. The book will be in shops next spring.
