New Imagery For The Martian

20th Century Fox definitely wants to keep science-fiction drama The Martian on our radar screens. With the trailer (sitting at the bottom of the page) and a featurette already online, here comes some new imagery from the movie.

Based on Andy Weir’s bestseller, the film finds a manned mission to Mars going chaotically wrong when a massive storm hits. Presumed dead, botanist Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is left behind as the rest of the crew, led by Commander Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain) head back home in their ship, the Hermes. But Watney is merely injured, and, as he contemplates trying to survive on the Red Planet with a limited number of supplies, he finds a way to contact Earth. There, the likes of NASA official Teddy Sanders must find some method to rescue him, even as Lewis and the crew of the Hermes risk treason charges to come to Watney’s aid.

Ridley Scott’s behind the camera for this one, directing from a script by Drew Goddard. The new images offer a glimpse at people besides Damon’s Watney and his fellow space-goers, with the likes of Kristen Wiig’s Earthbound NASA media relations specialist Annie Montrose pictured.

Featuring a cast that also includes Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Michael Peña, Aksel Hennie, Mackenzie Davis, Sean Bean, Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Naomi Scott, **The Martian **recently shifted to an earlier October release date for the States, though that change has yet to be reflected in the UK.
