It's not often that a behind-the-scenes featurette drops a genuinely jaw-dropping snippet, but that's what happens in this piece for The Lone Ranger. While shooting a ride-by amid the magnificent scenery of the American West, Johnny Depp falls from his horse and gets dragged behind and trampled. Depp's talked a little bit about what happened, but seeing is believing and this is looks like a stunt but is, sadly, nothing so deliberate.
Also in this featurette, Armie Hammer climbs a frankly rickety-looking tower on the very rim of the Grand Canyon, and director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer talk about their commitment to practical effects and shooting on location.
The Lone Ranger is out in the UK on August 9, and in the US on July 3. Let's hope it was worth the damage to Depp's ribs. And, as Depp says, at least it didn't stand on his coccyx.
