Without duplicating the events or characters of the film itself, the new TV adaptation of Fargo – which inspired by the Coen brothers’ 1996 dark-toned crime pic – certainly appears to have captured its tone. The evidence is in the latest teaser trailer for the show, which you can watch below.
Set in the same universe as the likes of Marge Gunderson and Jerry Lundegaard, the series revolves around several new characters, including Martin Freeman’s insurance salesman Lester Nygaard, Billy Bob Thornton’s wrong un’ Lorne Malvo and Deputy Molly Solverson (Allison Tolman), who investigates a case involving the pair.
With Joel and Ethan Coen offering their notes on the script drafts as executive producers, Noah Hawley is the man actually running the show for this one, which also features Colin Hanks, Bob Odenkirk, Joey King, Oliver Platt and It’s Always Sunny’s Glenn Howerton among its ranks. US viewers will be able to see the show on FX from April 15 on FX, while Channel 4 will be airing it over here, though the channel has yet to announce a start date. Given the current trend for American series episodes to air a few days (or even hours) after their stateside debut, we’d expect Fargo to follow a similar pattern.
