There may not be a limitless supply of holidays for Hollywood filmmakers to crank out ensemble rom-coms around, but they can always rely on a popular book to generate at least a title that they can wrap with a stoy, like swaddling an infant. Which is an extremely cheesy yet convenient segue to news that the new trailer for What To Expect When You’re Expecting is out, and can be viewed below.
Loosely – very loosely – based on the books by Heidi Murkoff, the plot revolves around different couples who are either very pregnant or, in the case of Alex (Rodrigo Santoro) and Holly (Jennifer Lopez) preparing to adopt.
While the first trailer focused a little more on the ladies doing the actual baby-carrying (in this case, they include Elizabeth Banks, Cameron Diaz, Anna Kendrick and Brooklyn Decker), this go-around we get more time with the "Dudes Group" featuring a gathering of fathers (Chris Rock, Joe Manganiello, Thomas Lennon and Rob Huebel among them) who know all about what it’s like to put up with the poo-spewing, trouble-causing, responsibility-bringing little bundles of joy. So Alex joins them to get a man’s-eye view on the world of parenthood.
It remains to be seen whether Kirk Jones can make something a little more balanced and entertaining than, say, New Year’s Eve, but it’s pretty clear this is going straight for the date movie jugular.
What To Expect When You’re Expecting is due on May 23.
