With the release of the Platinum Dunes Nightmare on Elm Street remake drawing closer, the promo material is coming thick and fast. MySpace have got a new poster proudly on display, while Shock Til You Drop are sporting some natty new stills.
The poster below, unremarkably, gives us Jackie Earl Haley’s Freddy Krueger, sporting the trademark glove, hat and sweater, facial burns (shadowed beneath the hat-brim, but you can still see plenty: certainly more than before) and a bit of a sardonic grin. Nice. Not sure about “Welcome to your new nightmare” as a tagline though; immediately bringing to mind as it does both Wes Craven’s quite good New Nightmare from 1994, and an Alice Cooper album from 1975. Deliberate po-mo intertextual riffing, we’re sure. Not just unimaginative marketing.

Meanwhile, MovieGod.de stills give us the classroom scene, the Johnny Depp bedroom scene, and the girl-in-plastic-in-school-corridor scene, plus a razored arm and a clutched bit of dream-retrieved stripey jumper.

This is all pointing to a shot-for-shot remake of the Gus Van Sant's Psycho variety, but, for our sins, we're still hoping for some surprises. The trailer looked alright. The UK release date is May 7th.
