Robert Pattinson is living every wide-eyed Apprentice's dream in the new trailer for Cosmopolis - seemingly, at any rate. Admittedly, there are more of those Cronenbergian strains of sex, death and paranoia than you'd find around Sir Alan's boardroom table and fewer attempts to sell sausages to unsuspecting punters in Mile End. Hey, you can't have everything.
The film’s second trailer and these new clips slow down the frenetic mindrush the early teaserhurled at us. Cronenberg’s sci-fi feels like a different beast at 33rpm: more measured in the way Eric Packer’s (Pattinson) heightened world is stripped away around him and more unnerving. Still pretty trippy, mind you.
Packer is one of the 1 per cent, Tom Wolfe's 'masters of the universe', whose whole future is placed on one Wall Street forex wager. Around him unfolds all manner of chaos in a New York that seems ripe for a visit from Bane. Mind you, the looming threat of bankruptcy, rat-flinging activists and an possible assassin don't seem to be sapping his sex drive too much.
The tone feels like like Strange Days meets Bonfire Of The Vanities by way of Gaspar Noe and David Lynch. In two words: pure Cronenberg.
Here's the new trailer...
...and three new clips.
As you might have deduced from the subtitles, **Cosmopolis **will be appearing in competition in Cannes. If you're from the bit of France that isn't Cannes, you can catch it from May 25 while English types will have to wait until later this year for a cinematic release. Merde!
