We saw the first trailer for District 9/Elysium director Neill Blomkamp’s latest, Chappie, a couple of months ago. Now here comes the latest promo to fill in even more of the plot blanks.
Chappie sees Dev Patel create a thinking, feeling robot off the back of his work on mindless robot drones for the police. But not everyone is delighted by the seemingly sweet machine: Hugh Jackman’s Vincent and Sigourney Weaver as his boss are worried that this could mean the end of humanity. So the beardy Vincent sets out to destroy our hero and Chappie will have to rely on both his friends and his newly developed wits to survive. And from the looks of it, he’ll need ‘em, since Jackman has a nasty-looking ED-209-type droid at his disposal, armed with more firepower than a small American police force.
The film finds Blomkamp once more exploring ideas of technology, humanity and how we treat those not like us, and also features the likes of Blomkamp regular Sharlto Copley (playing the title character via performance capture), Ninja, Yolandi Visser and Jose Pablo Cantillo. Chappie will be out in the UK on March 6.
