The recipe for the “cocky, troubled genius tries to reclaim his former glory” film is a tricky one to master – sprinkle in too much of one thing and it leaves a sour taste. John Wells is hoping he’s cracked the flavour for Burnt, which stars Bradley Cooper as a charming, arrogant chef. Check out the new trailer below.
Written by Steven Knight, Burnt finds Cooper as Adam Jones, who left high school at 16 and headed to Paris to learn the culinary arts. He was a quick student and something of a sensation. But all that sudden success went directly to his ego, and that, in turn, sent him down the path of excess, drinking, drugs and overall debauchery that ruined his reputation.
Now, though, he’s looking to rebuild and has his eye on opening his own restaurant in London, with hopes he can score those all-important Michelin stars. But can he stay out of his own way? Or will his bad boy side take him down again?
With Daniel Brühl’s mogul backing him and Sienna Miller’s talented cook just trying to survive in his kitchen, Jones doesn’t just have to deal with his addictive personality and the people he’s hurt, there’s also the small matter of the thugs he’s crossed in the past... Alicia Vikander, Uma Thurman, Lily James, Emma Thompson, Matthew Rhys, Omar Sy (but not Jamie Dornan – his minor role was cut from the movie during editing) are also in the cast.
Burnt is out in the States on October 23 and will be plated here on November 6.
