The release of Battle: Los Angeles is fast approaching, but here are a couple more shots from the film, fresh from the pages of the new issue of Empire (out tomorrow, fact fans). And they give you some idea of the destruction that a highly-motivated alien invasion force can cause when visiting a major US metropolis.

The film, as you should really know by now, stars Aaron Eckhart as a the leader of a team of Marines attempting to evacuate a group of civilians out of a war zone (formerly the City of Angels). They're up against a huge alien invasion fleet, including giant ships, little ships, seemingly endless firepower and a whole heck of a lot of scary inhabitants. Should be a breeze.

Liebesman, speaking to Empire, explained that his aliens come from a water-based planet and wear "inverted scuba suits, which turn air into water. I wanted them to be an army too. They have generals, they have medics, they have tactics, they have a plan. There's no hive mentality; they're individuals with self-preservation."

He's also promised that this will be more Black Hawk Down than War of the Worlds. "The way we conceived Battle: LA was that it's like the Battle of Midway in World War II. It's one story within a huge war that takes place the world over. We're just following one platoon, and it leaves us able to keep it realistic. There are so many places to go for a second film. We leave a lot of stuff for later."

Battle: Los Angeles is in UK cinemas on March 11, and there's much more on the film's genesis and alien design in the new issue of Empire out tomorrow.
