With **Avatar **fever reaching, well, fever-pitch, 20th Century Fox have released a first pic of Sam Worthington's wheelchair-bound ex-marine Jake Sully, together with his blue-skinned Na'vi avatar floating serenely behind him, at the human base on the planet Pandora.
Set on the alien planet populated by the indigenous Na'vi people, Avatarsees Sam Worthington's Sully working for a mining company that, through its pioneering technology, can switch human consciousness to Na'vi bodies, enabling it to tap the planet for its abundant natural resources.
Needless to say, none of this goes down particularly well with the actual Na'vi and Sully soon finds himself caught between two conflicting sides, and, presumably, a Jim Cameron-sized arsenal of heavy weaponry. We showed two clips from the film at Movie-Con II yesterday, where they went down a storm - read more about that in our complete report of the event here.
Head over to Apple's trailer store, meanwhile, for the countdown to Avatar's teaser trailer. The Watchmen-style doomsday clock indicates that (at the time of writing) we're a mere 69 hours from landing on James Cameron's brave new world for the first time. The bad news is that, according to our basic maths, that's 6am on Thursday morning.
Better set those alarms (and keep them set, because Friday is **Avatar **day).
