We were recently promised "violence, guns and heavy kissing" in Alpha Papa, the long-awaited first big-screen outing for Steve Coogan's pringle-sweatered, Toblerone-addicted, cringetastic horror Alan Partridge. Here, at least, is one of those core elements, in the form of a new still, in which Partridge appears have tooled up, the better to prevent the escalation of some tomfoolery into... something worse.
What's the score? The set-up is is a hostage seige situation that sees North Norfolk Digital's finest facing off against a fellow DJ gone postal. Could go his way, we suppose.
“We’re putting him into a situation,” Coogan told us in our May issue (still available for the iPad, folks). “We had to make it filmic without throwing away the DNA that makes him Alan-like. So we kicked around a lot of ideas and ended up with something that’s a bit Dog Day Afternoon and a bit** Network**. There is a threat level.” Smell his cheese, you mothers.
With Father Ted man Declan Lowney behind the camera, **Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa **is set for release on August 7. For more details on the man who brought the world the phrase "Liquid football!"{
