As if Bill Murray wasn’t already a festive tradition for many of Team Empire thanks to Scrooged, he’s now ready to crash that Yuletide staple, the Christmas special. Netflix is backing A Very Murray Christmas. Check out the very short teaser below.
Co-written by the actor alongside his **Lost In Translation **director Sofia Coppola and Scrooged scribe Mitch Glazer, with Coppola set to call the shots, the special will be an homage to variety shows, with Murray playing himself and worrying that none of his guests will show up due to a terrible snow storm in New York. “Christmas is really about Christmas songs so I thought I’d sort of do something like that,” Murray previously said of the project. “That was sort of Sofia’s idea. And I started thinking about Christmas songs and I thought you can do some different things with it and sort tell a little bit of a story.”
Yet guests will indeed show up, including George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Michael Cera, Chris Rock, Maya Rudolph, Jason Schwartzman, Rashida Jones and Miley Cyrus. The special will debut in December on Netflix but doesn’t have a firm final date yet.
