Monsters vs Aliens TV Pilot Commissioned

Kids channel Nickelodeon has commissioned a TV pilot based on Monsters vs Aliens, according to Dreamworks head honcho Jeffrey Katzenberg.

Speaking to a media conference in Boston, Katzenberg confirmed that small-screen adventures for Ginormica, BOB, Dr Cockroach, Link and Insectosaurus are on the cards. This follows last week’s news that a Kung-Fu Panda series is also in the works, along with a Panda special and a new Shrek TV movie for NBC.

Whether Monsters vs. Aliens will forgo a big-screen sequel in favour of the series remains unclear, although we know that Kung-Fu Panda’s series will co-exist with the movie continuation due in 2011 so it seem likely that the two will run side-by-side. Katzenberg, it seems, is keen to keep Dreamworks' collective fingers dipped in as many multimedia pies as possible, and is not blind to the licensing opportunities of series that run for half the year. Skidoosh, and indeed, ker-ching!
