Wow. Just… Wow. After last week brought the first teaser for Universal’s Snow White And The Huntsman, now comes the promo for the competition, Relativity Media’s Mirror Mirror. Take a look for yourself below.
This version of the tale sticks a little more closely to the Grimm original than Huntsman, with the evil Queen (Julia Roberts) looking to get rid of the beautiful competition and Snow White (Lily Collins) ending up with the dwarfs. The twist here is that Snow and her enemy are competing for the love of Prince Andrew Alcott (Armie Hammer) and there’s a lot more plot around winning his heart. Oh, and the dwarfs are a bandit bunch who eventually help Snow take on the evildoer.
Immortals director Tarsem Singh has described this one as much more light-hearted, and compared to any of his earlier work (or even the far moodier Huntsman), he’s not wrong - although he's clearly kept his eye for an outrageously gorgeous costume and set. But it also looks a little old-fashioned at times and the gags featured in the trailer are extremely broad - although Roberts does look to be having fun with them. “Snow way?” Really? And the less said about Hammer being dosed with “puppy love” the better.
We’ll wait to see more before we really judge this one, but if they were going for camp, they succeeded. Let us know what you think.
