Michael Bay On His Transformers 2 Regret

We touched on this previously when we first brought you the latest cover of the magazine, but as it was such an interesting little tidbit, we thought we’d expand upon it. Which tidbit exactly? The one where Michael Bay admitted Transformers 2 “was crap”. That one.

A big thing coming from any director, let alone the master of explosions, and it’s something Mr. Bay talks about in greater detail in the magazine. But as we’re a generous lot around here we thought we’d share with you just a few more quotes online, both from Mike and the films' producer, Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

“People also forget we got slammed on the first one,” says Bonaventura. “It wasn’t quite as bad, but it was basically a slamming. Critics have missed the boat on a very simple thing: audiences love to be entertained. People just ganged up on it.”

“We made some mistakes,” admits Bay. “The real fault with [Transformers 2] is that it ran into a mystical world. When I look back at it, that was crap. The writers’ strike was coming hard and fast. It was just terrible to do a movie where you’ve got to have a story in three weeks.”

“I was prepping a movie for months where I only had 14 pages of some idea of whatthe movie was,” Bay goes on. “It’s a BS way to make a movie, do you know what I’m saying?”

Reassuring stuff, hearing such candour from such a big name director. And if you thought that was good, you should see the five-strong list of Transformers 3 dos and don’ts he shared with us in the magazine. No, “there shall be no robo-testes” is not one of them…

For more details, check out the magazine, there's a good chap. Try the iPad version, why not?
